I had the same problem with the rattling. I thought it was my transmission, then I thought it was the muffler. I pulled the inspection plate off of the transmission bell housing and found out three of my flywheel bolts were loose! I tightened them back down and the vibration went bye-bye!

Default Vibrating 98 Cherokee sport

I had a vibration/rattling noise that was cured by removing the inspection plate on the transmission bell housing and tightening the flywheel bolts. Three of them were loose.

Now I am having the same vibration from the drive train that everyone else here is having. Mine happens at about 45 mph, especially when I am going up a hill or towing a load. It occasionally happens at other speeds too. It feels like it is coming from the rear of the jeep, but I have read that vibrations are hard to trace. They seem to be coming from a certain area, but could be coming from anywhere.
I wonder if it could be the rear differential? I knew someone else with a Cherokee that had this same problem. I think that it must be either axles or the differential because it only happens under load conditions.

I have replaced everything that moves in the drivetrain, had both driveshafts pro built everything new and I still have a slight vibration at 65 to 70. I think it is inherint to the jeep.

how old are the tires? even if they were balanced they may still be out of round, shifted belt etc. can you see how much weight they put on the tires? You can try a new steering stabilizer that is the quickest way to find out if there is something out of whack in the front end. ball joints should be checked, tie rods, track bars, are all common failure points....have the tires ever been rotated since this started?

Default My 99 cherokee is doing the same thing

I have a 99 cherokee stock and since I bought it this has happened. Good all the way to 65 and then bam the vibration starts and continues until you are off of the gas or go below 65. I was thinking maybe it is the tires and have not yet replaced them with some new ones but wanted to make sure it was not a big deal and my tire was going to fall off. At some point I am going to be adding a lift kit and bigger tires but not for a year or so and I am driving this daily down the highway for now. Anybody have a major problem from this that would make me stop driving it and get it fixed ASAP or can I just keep on keeping with it until I get new tires and a lift.

Ir seems everyome has this problem. I have a 99 xj with150k on the dash. No mechanic could tell me a certain reason why, only maybe this and maybe that. What i finally did was firat changed the teering stabilozer along with the trackbar and front shocks. Then since it helped but it wasnt tptally gone i went ahead and did my lcas and ucas. That finally did do it. No vibration along woth no death wobble
