Default 98 cherokee help

98 xj aw4
My first automatic xj so might be normal but just wanting to confirm. When you are driving down the road, gear nor rpm seam to matter, and you completely let off of gas pedal, rpms will drop off quickly. It will drop to 700 and then bump back up to normal 1100 or so rpm. I just bought it a week ago and just started doing this today. Any suggestions? Thanks!

My 98 cherokee does the same thing so I would imagine it is normal. Lower rpms mean better mpgs i guess so im not going to complain

could be that your TPS is going out.

the tps registers when you suddenly let off the throttle and will shut the injectors off so that the engine will slow down quicker IE, slamming on the brakes and the engine wont keep you moving.

it shouldnt act like it is going to die. but it should go back down to a normal idle rpm.
