Default 98 Cherokee gauge cluster not working

My 1998 xj cluster isn't working! All the lights work but no gauges. Ive tore the dash apart checked everything. All fuses an relays are good.

Any one have this problem? Ive googled it an nothing.

I think I have a bad cluster. But not 100%

Anyone? Is there a way to check the cluster?

It's often a connection problem, have you tried hitting the top of the dash or pushing in on the dash to see if anything changes. is this a constant condition or does the dash instruments intermittingly?

Everything was good, I cleaned everything also l. Yep tryed hitting the dash.

Theres a green plug on thr left side an a black on the right side. I think one contolls the gauges an the other does the lights?? Atleast that would make sense. All the lights on the cluster work.

There is an updated connector kit that was made for this problem. Its simply the 2 connectors that plug into the back of the gauge cluster. Requires some crimping or soldering up in the dash, but its not too bad, just tedious.

I did this on my 2000, & it fixed my gauges for a while.

The next time they crapped out, it was a ground from the battery to the inner fender well. Scuffed it up, and coated it with copper anti-sieze and all is well.

This was with "no bus" displayed on the odometer, and no gauges working, but instrument lights working

This is the part number I came up w from a quick Google search. From here on cherokeeforum.

Mopar part # 1-05016261AA

Quantity of 2. Its not a "kit" as I thought I remembered it was, its just 2 connectors.

I don't think mine had the code either. Just read "no bus" on the od and none of the gauges worked

Lol. Well everything I've found out during the year of mine Workin, then not, then again, is its either a battery, a ground (whether it's engine, chassis, or whatever), or its them connectors in the back of the cluster, or a faulty gauge cluster. Those wr my solutions also with the exception of the gauge cluster itself.

Do a search mate. I've posted pics of the ground points in the engine bay so many times it's not funny.

Would the gauges not work if I have a bad TCM? I have two codes for TCM. Didnt think would effect the gauge tho....

Mine did this a couple weeks ago, the day after I'd washed under the hood & engine area. Hopefully I just messed up the ground---temporarily!
Only did it about 3 days.
My tranny started acting crazy every time it did it too.
I thought I was imagining the "no bus" warning!
