Default 98 Cherokee driver speaker not working

So I’ve been going at this door speaker for too long and I need help. A while ago I installed new speakers all around and I fixed the broken wire in the door boot and everything was great! Up until a week or two ago the driver side speaker went out occasionally coming in for a few seconds then not at all. Taking everything apart again I thought it was the power wire that I had installed from the HU to the speaker but it wasn’t. I checked the other wire and there’s no power no ground (BR/R) or (BL/R). I tried replacing the wire off the connector behind the hood release then through the boot into the door but still nothing. I read that it’s possible for the wires under the carpet to break but I don’t step on the floor due to fear of falling through so I’m not sure how that would happen but any info, pics, or diagrams are greatly appreciated!

Did I read this wright ? you don't step on the floor because you mite go though the floor ? I think that is a bigger problem then a speaker not working . you need to replace the wire that runs though the door because it is weak and will keep braking . run a good speaker wire that can bend with out braking . but fix the floor before you fall though .

I feel you on the speaker issues, my XJ was a police car and only the passenger speaker worked. The rest were removed XD... But about the floor issues, my absolute favorite Cherokee was rusted out and not safe to drive. I had to replace it. Still have it and hope to repair but please inspect all areas of major structural integrity. They are quite the death trap once rusted out ..

yeah... common problem with the driver side speaker wire.... see if you can thread a new wire through the loom without having to take that rubber boot off. It's a pain to get back in correctly most times.

As for the bigger problem than your speaker.... you don't want to be Flintstoning your rig....so don't be shy... take the carpet up inspect the extent of the corrosion and get it fixed. Especially with Unibody construction... you don't want that to get out of hand....or no more XJ

Thank you all for the responses. I have all ready been in the boot of the door multiple times just to get the new wire through but this isn’t the common power wire that breaks in the boot it’s the other wire going to the speaker that has a break in it somewhere but I’m not sure where and I can’t find any diagrams on where the wires run to. As for the falling through the floor like I mentioned, this Jeep has already had the unibody repair where the steering box is and the floor IS rotted out but only right below the pedals no where near my seat. I have plans but it being my daily is hard so I’m waiting on my new truck to get finished then the Jeep is getting some much needed love. There are also plans to oil it because some areas of this Jeep are spotless while others are terribly rusted
