Default 98 to 99 jeep cherokee 4.0 Auto starter question`s..??

Hey everybody was changing the starter in a 99 cherokee and it literally came apart at the 12 volt post area on the solenoid..,Anyway the 99 starter appears to be different than the starter I had from a 98,and 97 ? The 99 body is shorter or more compact than the 98.. I have several starters from 97`s, and 98 leftover project`s and good I was hoping to use one of them not sure of the difference other than the key on connection is a push on on the 99 and on the older one`s they have a small nut and bolt.. The 12 volt looks the same it is the other connector that is different and the 99 is more compact.. Hate to buy a new one while I have these just sitting here .. If anybody can shed some light I would appreciate the help/advice .Thanks in advance Bill

Default starter differences??

Wow, I was really hopeing somebody knew the difference. To me they look the same the 99 starter body is shorter but the mounting and the teeth on the starter look the same?? Fortunetly I picked up a used starter from a guy parting a 2000 cherokee for 10 dollars so it was a no brainer but still curious?? Thanks Bill

Here is your answer.

The stupid search on this forum always brings me to some stupid chat threads first.
Gotta jump thru too many hoops to find this.
