Hello everyone, I have a 98 xj, bought used not sure if it was origially a 4x2 but previous owner said they were converting to 4x4, has the front axle but still has the 2wd trans, can you tell by looking at the TCU if its a 4x4 or 4x2? and are they different? looking in purchasing a 4x4 trans to complete the 4x4, thanks again Joel

 

When i converted my 94 to 4wd i didnt need to swap the TCU, it ran normally.

However, that was an OBDI management system.. not sure on the 98's OBDII. Call and ask the dealer parts dept.. they could compare part numbers on the screen in 2 minutes..
