'97 XJ won't stay in 4-Lo.. Shifter Adjustment?

My 1997 XJ will not stay in 4-Lo, I can pull the shifter back and the indicator light comes on but does not quite engage all the way it will just slip back into nuetral. 4-high seems to be working fine. Any ideas?

Have you tried neutral on trans and then put in 4lo. In gear usually doesn't work for me.

Yeah I tried in neutral as well. Rolling2-3 mph and stopped. Still no luck.

I had the same problem on a previous Jeep and the T-case linkage wasn't adjusted correctly. I would check that.

I just wanted to add, mine does that, but I won't lift a finger to deal with it until I change out my broken mounts. My engine is maybe about an inch forward of where it belongs.
