Ok so I just bought a 97 XJ for 1500 and it started and ran just fine when I picked up drove it home parked it for the night got up the next morning to go to work and it wouldn't start. I turn the key on and fuel pump primes and all the lights and everything works but you turn it over and it cranks for a second then it sounds like the starter keeps spining. Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

 

On my `97 I have to turn the key to on for multiple 5 sec intervals to prime the fuel rail, once is not enough.

It sounds like the starter isn't ingaging the flywheel

 

Possible causes:
1. weak battery
2. poor/dirty connections at either end of either battery cable
3. defective starter

 

Fixed it. The starter was bad. That's for all the help.
