Hey guys,
I have a 97 XJ Sport 4.0L automatic. When you are standing in front of the engine bay facing the engine, I have a fan on the right and a fan on the left, both between the radiator and the engine. The fan on the right broke last winter and hasn't worked since. A few days ago, I took a 15 min trip down the highway. It was like 90f out so I had the AC on full blast. All of a sudden the temp guage went from dead center to red line.I parked, got out, and there was fluid all over the ground. I popped the hood and the coolant bottle was full of boiling coolant. It looked like the fluid was comming from the overflow tube. Did I over heat because of that broken fan? There was no steam or noise or anything, just the check guages light and the temp guage with a burried needle. What do you guys think?

if its the first time, i'm sure the water pump and theromstat is fine .. but definetly replace the fan which is probably the source of why your jeep is overheating, also, A/C increases the overall temperature of the engine, so if you're driving around still with the fan broke, don't turn on the A/C
ah for the water pump visually check it and see if any coolant is leaking out of it, you can also crank the car up and listen for a grinding noise at the water pump pulley
for the thermostat, just warm up the car and drive around for say 2-3 minutes, by then it should stay steady in the middle, but inline 6 engines are normal to go over the middle marker as long as its not in red, you're fine.
