97 XJ Alternator Brushes
A long time ago, I repaired my car alternator by simply replacing the alternator brushes. Can I do the same thing on my 1997 XJ? I have the 4.0L with the auto transmission (if that matters for this question). Thanks.

i guess that would depend on whats wrong with your xj's alternator. does it put out the required volts? and recharges the battery?

OK -- so here is what it is doing.
If I roll the windows up when the stock radio is on, everything will be OK, until the window reaches the stop point. Then, there will be a loud pop on the speakers and the radio will go out for about 2 seconds and come back on.
If I am not idling -- everything is OK.
I noticed today, that my indicator is on 13 -- one mark below 14 all the time.
It seems that the battery is charging fine.
Something that happened about a week ago -- and has only happened once -- is that I was driving in a place notorious for speed traps -- 30 mph. I looked down to check my speed and the entire cluster was completely dead. I pulled into a parking lot, turned the heep off and back on. Everything came back as usual and I have not had that problem anymore.
So -- maybe I don't need new brushes -- but I would like to know what is going on.
