Default 97 xj AC help!

As title describes I have had AC problems for a few years. I charge it and it will last a few weeks. So I decided to replace the orifice tube last weekend. Went to advance got a AC fill kit. Put in maybe 3/4 of can while car wads running and it's saying it is over pressured. I'm going to take it to a local garage to run a vacuum and refill but is their any other things I can do to help this process.

Thanks

You need to have a vac put on the system or preform a purge before trying to refill a system that has been opened.
To purge you will open the high pressure port while connected to the low side filling till freon comes out then close.

Your evaporator may be leaking. Take the Heep to a shop that has a Freon leak sniffer. With the system charged, run the engine for 5 minutes with the AC on, select recirc (Max AC) on the mode selector, Temp Selector to max cold, sniff for Feon leak at the top vent outlet.

I have to agree with highmileage. If you didn't put a vacuum on the system that would be your problem. If you still have air and moister in the system after opening it up it will cause premature failure of the system and can cause the compressor to be damaged. I hope that isn't the case. Any time you open up the ac system you have to pull a vacuum on the system to get the air out. Keep us updated on what you find.
