Turn the key on then turn it back off then try to crank it. This primes the fuel system.

As Finney says turn the key on and listen you should be able to hear the fuel pump. Once the fuel pump has stopped then try to crank it. Most Cherokees are not fast starters but it just takes a couple of seconds after you have performed the above suggested priming.

Had the same problem after I poured Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer in with my motor oil.

Got cold one day and she didn't want to turn over. Got to the point that I had to beat my starter to get it to turn over. Once she heated up, she started up just fine.

Did an oil change with 5W-30 only and the problem went away. Guessing Lucas made it too thick during cold weather starts.

Still have the same starter without any problems for over two months.
