Ok, I have probably created more problems that progress. I had a starting and dying issue so I went to the battery. There was a clear issue with the negative connection. I messed with it and got it going. I then took the connection apart, cleaned it and that worked for a day or 2. It was all coming apart so I got a new connector, and made a good tight connection. Turn the key and there is no power anywhere and the battery tests fully charged.
All connections appeared good, so cable is next right? Fine, so I decide to replace both while I'm at it. The positive had 2 wires. 1 was easy but the other that went to the starter actually went to a rectangular 'rubberized' plastic thing about 2''x1'' with another wire going into it too then the rectangle bolted to the starter. I just cut the smaller wire and removed the positive battery cable with the rectangle attached.
The negative had 1 wire right to the body next to the battery. Then1 wire that was factory split into 2 wires. 1 going to the body and the other going to the alternator...sort of... It goes into a sealed plastic box along with 2 or 3 other small wires. The box is then bolted to the alternator with 1 10mm bolt and 2 7mm bolts. A 1'' wire, that looks like a continuation of the negative cable (but its not the same wire) comes out the other side of the box and bolts to the alternator with a 10mm bolt.
I haven't cut anything else, so the negative wire is still attached. All the replacement cables are just regular battery cables with no boxes or splits or other things on the end. A simple battery cable replacement has gotten out of hand. I quit before I did more damage or pushed the truck down the hill, into traffic.
I'm sorry, this might be too much or not enough, but I sure could use some of your expert advice.
Thanks for scratching you head with me!
