97 Cherokee start/stall probs
Hi - I need help please (obviously)...1997 Cherokee 195,000 w/ 4.0L. It has been hard starting for the last couple of months. Also sometimes wants to stall intermittently when coming to a stop. Also, gets "choked up" between 1200-1800 rpm's and requires heavy foot to get past and resume acceleration. Last symptom, once in awhile when turning the key while trying to start, nothing - no "turning over", no clicking, in fact no power at all, as even light under hood is out. And then it seems after waiting a couple minutes, power is back and it goes back to (hard) starting. Ive seen a couple hundred posts on here w/ all of the same symptoms EXCEPT the last "no power". Thanks a lot!

No power at all points to your battery terminals/wiring. Clean them, and the cables. Do your grounds also.....Don't cost a thing but time, and more then likely it will solve your problem.......

thank you for the reply. I maybe didn't clarify that this problem seems to be in conjunction with the other hard start (cranking just fine for as long as I need) and stall and stutter problems. I've noticed CPS, TPS, IAC V, spark plug/wire, relays, ASD relay, and fuel pump probs. I just have not seen the symptom of "no power" before w/ the other hard start/stall and am wondering if that gives it away. Also, as there is an "ASD relay", could you advise where the actual ASD is? Thank you.

The Automatic Shut Down relay is in PDC inside the engine compartment on the passenger side fender well.... It is the top center relay.
The the NO Crank and NO power symptoms I would check the battery post cable connections, the positive cable connection to the starter... and the negative cable to the block... Clean connection, check for cable corrosion and tighten the hold downs....
When the No Crank happens try shifting the transmission into N and attempt to restart. If the engine cranks over and starts; then you have a dirty Neutral Safety Switch or harness connections....
