Default 97, 2.5TD, XJ, cuts out periodically?

As the title really folks...

Driving along I felt it cut out, no power, it did cut back in again though but was in and out constantly after that...

Maybe connected but when it did cut out, and it seems whilst I was having the trouble, the dials on the dashboard froze, no movement at all whilst driving...

Just what I need two weeks into my Jeep ownership and already having swapped the heater matrix

Cheers all, Stu.

Any thoughts about it possibly being a loose terminal or connection somewhere?

Could that cause this?

Purely a guess but it being a Diesel once the engine is running very little stops them apart from fuel starvation does it cough and splutter or just stop dead ?

I'd say cough and splutter, I can start it again after a minute or so, yesterday it was running as right as rain...

Well I'm no mechanic but I'd say check your fuel pump, if it was injectors or similar you'd get misfires not a complete stop, also what fuel are you using could it be contaminated ?

Fuel from the petrol station pumps, should be ok but you never know....

On Monday morning I had a few hours under the bonnet, cleaning terminals, checking wires etc etc...

I also changed the fuel filter, which was ready, plenty of nasty stuff in there...

I have been running it since then and it has been good, time will tell though eh...
