96 xj wiring under dash
anyone with a '96 xj, if you could find the time could you please post some pics of the wiring under your dash. i've got some pretty gnarly stuff going on under mine and before i start posting pics of "what's this, and this, and this" i'd like to see what should normally be under there. i'm pretty sure there was an aftermarket alarm at some point, but there are some other things i just don't know about. i'm currently looking for diagrams and schematics but i thought some pictures might help me get started in the right direction. many thanks!

Cool thanks I haven't ran into that site yet. Question, I found a little toggle switch under the dash. There are no fog liights or aftermarket lights (yet), so I am wondering if any alarm systems come equipped with a switch. Otherwise I can't imagine what it could be for.

I'm no real help. My 84 has an alarm I never figured out. I disabled it enough that just a red light blinks sometimes. It DOES have a toggle switch down there that I mess with hoping the light will go off. Sometimes it does!

btw i failed to mention the whole reason i started snooping around under there is because i have no power to anything whatsoever when the key is not in the ignition. no power locks, no dome lamp, and the factory radio resets to 12:00 every time i start the thing.

Guess you would have looked, but there has got to be a fuse,,,doubt there is a relay for something like the clock. There's diagrams there in the FSM. Wonder if it could be related to one of the fusible links. Had any "issues?", sparks, smoke, mice running for there lives with there butt on fire?

i love this forum, its so active!! anyway, i haven't noticed any "issues", it was a pre-existing condition. i have been digging through the fsm from that great lakes site and it is a LOT to take in. there are two separate .pdf files on wiring, although they kind of both say the same things. i haven't found a solution to my problem with the "no power to accessories without the key in the ignition" but i have noticed one thing. there is one fuse missing in the PDC and i cannot find what it is for. the PDC cover just tells me fuse amp ratings and the fsm also does not specify what the fuses are for, only the relays. i'm going to post a pic and see if someone can tell me what the missing fuse is.
also, i've been trying to get on autozone.com and look at their repair guides but the site isn't letting me create an account at the moment.

Are there fuses in the other spots for ABS (in my 96 there were about 3 different fuses that had to do with ABS)? Taking them out is the easy way to disable ABS, which is what the PO did to my car. I've been driving it like this for 4 months now without an issue, works and stops perfectly. If it is working fine, I wouldn't worry about it

I was really just hoping someone would post a couple pics of the wires under the dash so I could see what mine has that is aftermarket. As far as the other abs fuses I'll have to go back out and check.

cool, well the problem with no lights or anything without the key being in the ignition was the IOD fuse. there wasn't one. as soon as i popped it in my clock came on and i was able to lock the doors without the key in the ignition. i did notice however that the vent fan came on. i'm thinking maybe whoever removed the fuse, did so to prevent running down the battery if they forgot to turn the climate control to "off." is that a common thing with these jeeps?
