96 xj transmission

96 xj transmission
I have a 96 with an aw4 automatic which starts off in a high gear.. if I manually shift down to 1st it will shift down and go fine..
I know I have a bad neutral safety switch but don't think that would cause any driveability issues..
please if anybody has any ideas, or if anybody knows anything about transmissions let me know!
