Default 96 XJ Project Thread

I'll be updating this as it comes along, but I started the real work this afternoon.

Today I ripped off the old flares and began trimming the fenders back. The fronts are done but only one of the rears are trimmed. I bought some door edge trim from AZ and krazy glued it to the front fender edges. Turned out very nice. I still need to finish the rears tomorrow. I also plan to apply some Herculiner to the rockers, lower doors, and over the rear tires tomorrow. I'll update with pics tomorrow night.

When I first got it a few weeks ago:

Tonight:

BTW, if anyone wants any factory flares or a bug shield for an XJ up to '96, they can HAVE mine. Just PM me.

If you do decide that you want to take them off be prepared to have many if not all of the bolts holding them on break. It is very common that people take them off to see how it would look then not able to put them back on.

Nice XJ! Got any plans figured out as to what you'd like to do to it?

He's right. Out of the 24 or so nuts I had to remove, I think 15-18 of them just snapped off. Trimming the front fenders was a breeze, I just followed the top body line and got the front done in like 25 mins. The rears were a pain in the *** due to the pinch seam thats right there. Also, making sure not to cut too high wasn't easy.

I just started prepping for the Herculiner, so I'm taking a break. But plans include 3.5-4" of lift and 31-32" tires sometime this summer. I'm also gonna build front and rear bumpers for it when I get some time.

Here are pics from today. I only finished the passenger side, as the mosquitos were getting too bad and I needed to get inside to start cooking.

Pics after a coat of the bedliner:

VVVV Whoops, haha.

Now the finished product:

Don't mind the stuff all over the tires, they won't be there too much longer, haha. I'm gonna take some of the Dupli-Color spray and cover the door jambs and all, and I'm undercoating the inside of the fender wells.

Let me know what you guys think so far.
