I just got my first truck/ my first xj and my doors wont lock. There manual locks and they wont lock from the inside or even with the key from the outside. Its a 2 door and both doors wont lock. Can anyone point me in a direction to go?

 

pull off the interior door panel and have a look see on whats going on in there its probably something easy, like a bent or missing connecting rod

 

allright Ill check it out tomarrow...I was just wondering if I was gonna have to buy something outrageous to fix it. I also wanted to ask about an exhaust for my jeep. It a 96 cherokee sport, 4.0, automatic tranny, 4x4. I cant decide between the cherry bomb muffler or the flowmaster 40. Can anyone tell me which sounds better? Manual door locks should be an easy fix.

For exhaust its an easier choice, Flowmaster. Dont buy a kit, just go to an exhaust shop and tell them you want a Flowmaster and 2.25 or 2.5 inch cat back.

 

sticky door locks in the latch mechanism.

open the door panels

(take arm rest off, and 3 screws from inside lock/handle panel, then some christmas tree plastic screws to pop out around the sides and bottom, then pull back, lift, and pop off. don't forget to pop the window cranks off...to do that you MUST put even pressure on it while pulling it off from each side. fingers will do maybe have someone hold the door open while you pop them)

then spray the **** out of the latch (at back of door...it's in an obvious location lol. your windows must be UP) with PB blaster or a silicon lubricant rated for cold temperatures and penetration.

that should fix the problem.

 

I did what you said and still nothing...Do you think a locksmith could fix it?

the door open and close just fine? the latch works good?

if so, i would think there is something wrong with the lock button/linkage/latch somewhere

on the latch where the lock linkage attaches to, can you move it with your hand so you lock the latch by hand?

 

yeah the doors open and close fine...I can barely move it but not enough to actually lock the door

 

this is because your locks are dirty, and not lubed.

you can fix this by removing the lock mechanism. 3 torx screws in each door, and a few rods to remove then pull it out and brake clean the hell out of it, then lube the hell out of it with grease and work it by hand until it's nice and easy.

 

Come too find out there wasnt anything wrong with my door locks. One of the previous owners tried adding some kind of powerlock setup and you can tell where they just half @$$ed it and left it with no locks. I just completely did away with the power lock motor and now its set up for the oem manual locks....at least my doors lock now

 

I have the same problem as you parker88. Did you just take off the wires that went to the lock mechanism and they worked?

 

Just fixed mine, remove the door panel and the bottom rod goes to the locking mechanism, spray in a bit then take vise grips put them on the rod and shake it left to right you will feel it get unstuck then botton it up and your good

Hey i cant lock my passenger side door from the inside due to a broken part. Im just trying to figure out what the part is called. If i trace the lock rod from the handle into the door frame it seems to have a black clip on the end, which on my jeep seems to be broken. I believe this is called a lock rod retainer, can anyone confirm this?
