96 XJ fuel sending unit
Although some did re-brand under their own names, they all used OEM NOS units from Chrysler. When those dried up that was it.
Omix has no plans to build reproductions, the demand is so low they would not recover their investment.
It's out of stock everywhere and it appears it'll stay that way.

I talked to Omix about that part (I have a '96 too) and was told that because it was used in so relatively few XJ's , none of the aftermarket suppliers tooled up and built their own.

Hey, I hope everything is going well with this. Something I was able to find is Crown/Quadratec seems to make the fuel sending unit, new. Here is a link to it for future reference: http://www.quadratec.com/products/51306_0147.htm. I just ordered one and will let you know how it all goes. Best of luck out there.

Any update? I ordered one as well, however it's listed as backordered on crowns website.. Needing to replace this sending unit as well on my 96
It took about a month, but I finally got the part in. The Cherokee is ripped apart (currently replacing all of the floors due to rust issues), so I can't quite test it out yet. I might see if I can hook it up and hook the battery up to get a reading. But it looks pretty much identical to the old unit. So all looks good.
I was able to hookup the fuel sending unit today and everything appears to be working properly with it. Readings are accurate, the wiring harness was the same, and the pump appeared to work (haven't put it in the tank yet).

Thanks! Good to know. Damn, that's a pretty pricey son-of-a-gun!!! I've got a few more projects ahead of fixing the gas gauge, BUT I might just buy the part to make sure I have it on hand when the time comes.

I like looking here for used parts. www.car-parts.com . It's a database of salvage yards from all over.
