Hey Gents,
I picked up my steal of a deal 96 Cherokee sport with only 105k for 1400 today and am going to use it for my build. Here is my ONLY problem. It runs amazing in 2WD BUT... Throw it in 4WD and it clunks bad when turning either way. Back into 2WD.. It is fine..

ANY HELP PLEASE.. I want to figure this before I buy the Lift, SYE, tires, etc.

Also - I tried moving the driveshaft and it seems solid. No play.

What type of transfer case? My 231 does this when I turn all the way to either side and try to move. I just figured it was the U-Joints binding

 

Yeah most of the time its the front axle u-joints

 

It is the J231 T-Case.. I know not to run it on pavement but I wanted to make sure it worked. That is when it did it as well. The guy said he NEVER noticed it before. Only used it in the snow in Tahoe..

 

Also it does it on any angle of turn, does not matter if sharp (harder clunk) or very easy.. And this was all going 2-4 mph
