Default 96 sport trip and odo inop

So I just got done installing a new rear O2 sensor and checking the fluids on my new to me 96 sport 4.0 aw4 all stock. Half way home from work and the trip counter stops. But the odo keeps rolling. Then a few miles later the odo stopped. The spedo works all the other gauges work. Any lil things to check first? I'm new to the whole HO cry co xjs. If it was my 90 I would be all over it. But I'm pretty sure this one is electric cluster

Still pretty old school on the odometer and trip. 97 and up is digital. There are two main plugs that run it, one in the center behind the gauges and one on the side. You remove some screws and the dash bezel pops off, then there are 4 screws that hold the cluster in place. Once it's free you can check to see if one of the fittings has worked loose.

Ok I wasn't sure how it was ran. I figure a cable ran spedo is going to have a mech ran odo. And a electric spedo will have an electric ran odo

And the dash has to come apart anyway to rewrite the stereo

Not too bad, just the trim bezel. Gives you access to the stereo without pulling anything else.

Yeah it's the same dash that's in my 90. I just didn't know how the spedo and odo worked on the post 90 xjs
