Default 96 rear differential

Have a 96 Cherokee Sport with a D35 that after 230,000 miles is starting to make some noise. Pretty sure it is the pinion bearing, maybe more. Found a 2001 Cherokee rear differential for cheap. Will this fit with no problem? Gear ratio is the same.

Try and find dana44 rearend out of the 88 89 90ish cherokees... there a bolt in swap and a waayyy better rear axe... If your gonna replace it... may as well upgrade!

Thanks for the replies. Would I need a drive shaft from a 2001 or should mine work?

It will bolt right in but you may have to chane your U-bolt. I can remeber if a chryo 8.25 has a bigger diameter houseing or not. but if it is a d35 all you will have to do is unbolt and rebolt
