Hi all, have a 96 xj that out of the blue doesn't start, It had spark but yet to check the fuel. I did pull some codes.


It looks like both 02 sensors need to be replaced but that wouldn't cause a no start would it? The CPS was replaced 20k ago by previous owner. Is there an easy 1 person job to check the fuel pump. Thanks in advance Jeep has 268k thousand miles btw and was running great up till this point, The fuel gauge stopped working a cpl months ago so maybe this has something to do with it. I had just put gas in it that morning so I know it has fuel.

 

So I got it running. I played with the wires to the fuel pump, beat on the gas tank and it started.

 

the fuel pump in a '96 has an integral pump/sender/regulator in the tank.

the actual pump itself can be replaced with a '95 or earlier pump, not the later '97

check your wiring and relay
