Default 96 Cherokee Sport Loses power while driving

Hey there. I've got a 96 Sport 4.0 AT. It will start, but it sounds like it's struggling to do so,starter sounds weak, but then it kicks on and will run and idle ok for a very short while. Usually, I'll get a few blocks before it dies at a stop. If I keep my foot on the gas it stays running.I tried to read the trouble codes with an OBD-II reader but it said no bad codes. Battery, starter relay, fuel pump,CPS and filter are all a year old. Any ideas here? Anyone else ever run into this? Thanks in advance. b.

how old is your exhaust system?it is possible it could be restricted causing it to choke it self.

Catalytic converter was replaced last year, along with O2 sensor, but the exhaust itself is maybe 5 yrs old?

Is the air filter good and check that the air box intake is not restricted. Also coil might not being throwing enough spark my bronco did that ran going down the road but died at a stop light.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the advice. The coil and alternator were what I was looking at next. I'm hoping it's not the ALT,but it is reading under 14 on the gauge while driving. Connections and airbox/filter look good.A coil would be a nice easy fix, fingers crossed. b.

Check your EGR valve (if equipped) to see if it's stuck open.
