Default 96 Cherokee sport died today?

My jeep's engine died cruising down the road today. It backed fire twice and would not restart. The only code its pulling is P0108.
Any ideas what going on ? I'm stumped!!
Thanks in advance!!

Check these. The MAP code may be incidental. Engine should start and run with the MAP disconnected, the PCM will just swap in values from a table.

Did it backfire through the exhaust, or the intake?

I'm not saying this is your problem but,....I had the same issue and it ended being the crank position sensor. Cheap part but a complete pain to replace. Like its been said check for spark first.

Thanks, their is gas coming out the valve on fuel rail when key is turned on. I have not had a chance to check for spark.
I guess I was so surprised when after sixteen year of faithful service she died , I did not notice if the back fire was out the exhaust or from the Throttle body.
Will check for spark tonight when I get home. The crank and came censors were change two years ago . I had a problem blowing the auto shut down fuse that turned out to be the alternator spiking.

Sorry for long gap in posting back, recovering from work accident . No spark ,replaced crank and cam censer . Still no spark.
I have 26 pounds of fuel pressure , hope that normal when priming with key on.
Any thought on what's next to try?
Thanks

26# is too low.
Is there power to the ignition coil with the key on?

Hopefully the work accident was nothing serious and you are 100% again..

The fuel pump is original with 170,000 miles on it. How do I fleck for power on the coil? I plan to bring home a meter from work and ome out the coil to cap wire today.
Thanks for asking, getting better every day. Bad infraction from hot slag in my ear.

There are three connections to the coil. The High Voltage connector to the cap, and a two-wire connector that carries +12V power and switched ground from the PCM.
Check to see if the steady +12V (should be battery voltage, whatever yours is) is present there.
