try jumpin it with another vehicle! maybe there is a weak connection somewhere and it need a little boost. try it!

ya, me and a buddie tried jump starting it, just hoping the battery was dead. anychance someone can tell me how to do this? http://www.ehow.com/how_5664896_jump...-solenoid.html ..... im thinking that might work. gotta get to pittsburgh tomorrow.

Unfortunately, i haven't had to do this on an XJ yet.


You didn't say in your last post... what happened when you tried "jumping" it??? We're assuming that you got 'er started???

If that's the case, it's probably just your cables then...

oh no, sorry. i did not get it started with the jump. so i was hoping to do it to the solinoide. ive tried the nss test.. jumping it.. but im clueless...

Okay... it's the Starter then.

Back in the day, i used to jump my Chevy Solenoids with a screw driver. All you had to do is "jump" the thicker +Wire on the Solenoid to the Positive Battery Cable on the Starter.


One more tip for you... You might just try "tapping" the starter with a large screwdriver once or twice. Sometimes this will work as a quick fix!


The Starter/Solenoid is sold as a unit, as i'm sure you already know. Your replacing the Cables also, right?

anychance you can maby give me and idea on where to place the screwdriver.. and yea im going to buy a whole new starter from autozone. but what wires should i buy? the terminals? aka Battery wires?

I just "jumped" my Starter. I used a long screwdriver from under my XJ to Arc the Solenoid Terminal to the Positive Battery Cable. With the Key On.
