Default 95 XJ oil light

Hello all, newbie here. I recently picked a 95 XJ at a local auction. It has 112000 original miles, was running great. I gave it a oil change, new plugs, new wires, new cap and rotor, new ignition coil, flushed out the coolant last weekend. I was driving to work today and the oil light popped on and the jeep hesitated with some slight jerking and it just shut down, it started right back up but did the same thing a couple miles later. I was able to get it back home but it cut off as I was pulling in the driveway. Any ideas where to begin would be greatly appreciated. The engine did not get hot, no other lights popped on just the oil light.

The oil light switch couldn't cause your jeep to miss or hesitate. Maybe the engine stalling for a moment made the light come on? It would / should come on when there's no oil pressure. But lack of oil pressure shouldn't cause the engine to shut down immediately, so I would guess the problem lies with a sensor. As long as I'm guessing, I'll say the CPS. ;-)

Hey, thanks a lot, I'm sitting at work scratching my head and realized I have not paid attention to make sure all my dash warning lights are working, maybe its possible the engine light is out. I'm going to check my dash lights when I get home, then replace the CPS and the TPS.

Maybe you have a loose or dirty ground that gave out momentarily, and just happened to affect the oil light? The shutting off and starting back up could be the crank sensor, or even the cam sensor. Could be wrong on both accounts tho. Turn the key to RUN to see if the CEL comes on. It should. Here is a link with trouble codes.

Thanks a lot, went home this morning and verified CEL is working, I went to Oreilly's and picked up a oil pressure sending unit and a CPS. I tried pulling some codes even though the CEL didn't come on and got nothing. Hopefully the CPS fixes the issue.
