Default 95 xj leaking oil out of dipstick

hello all, my 95 cherokee 4.0 started leaking oil out of the dip stick tube, but only when its off and has sat for maybe 30 minutes. it doesn't leak right after i shut it off. im not sure what can cause this, i find it more weird that it has to sit for a while to leak. any suggestions?

Check the oil level after the engine has been sitting for an hour, you might either have too much oil or something is causing the oil level to go up. Things like a blown head gasket or cracked block will allow coolant to get into the crankcase an raise the level. Leaking fuel injectors will also cause the level to go up by filling the crankcase with fuel. Give the dipstick a sniff and see if it smells like gas.

also a clogged PCV valve will allow pressure in the crankcase to get high, and it looks for the path of least resistance to relieve that pressure

Before you go looking for it, '95 doesn't have a PCV valve There is a CCV system chat can clog up. Any oil in your air box/filter? While you are at it, the fitting on the manifold that supplies vacuum to the rear hose from the valve cover can get clogged. A bit of stiff wire will clean it out.

good point, most of mine have been earlier models with the valve in the cover.
