The first thing you need to do is have your battery load tested. Just because it's 2 yrs old doesn't mean it isn't bad. I had a brand new battery go bad after a week. You also need to have the charging system checked out When you pull the battery to have it load tested pull the alt and have that load tested. Any parts store will test both for free. You also need to clean all of the grounding point and the connection at the starter.

To find out what the check engine light is on for. Put the key in the ignition turn it forward-back-forward-back-forward and wait for the check engine light to start flashing and count each flash (kind of like Morse code). It will give you 2 digit codes. It will flash 1 to 5 times then pause and flash 1 to 5 times again. There might be more than one code stop right down each 2 digit code. My bet is you will get code 12 which is battery disconnected within last 50 starts. The last code will be 55 which means there are no more codes.

Two weeks ago I had this same problem with my 94. It ended up being the battery. You can find a list of codes on line just google check engine codes 95 cherokee

I wonder whether check engine light may be independent. the timing of the no start issue reminds me of my NSS going out. Did you try to jiggle the shift lever (assuming it is an auto), or try to start it in neutral? Those would be indicators of the neutral safety switch. Numerous posts on here about testing them on the vehicle and about removing and cleaning them. I tried, broke mine getting it off, and it wasn't gummed up. Cost about $240, or so, available at local parts stores. Not a difficult replacement at all.
