Default 95 Cherokee Engine Dies When Key is Released

I have a 95 Cherokee Sport. This morning on the way to work, I could smell something burning. The heater fan, radio, lighter, and wipers shut off. When I arrived at work, I shut off the engine and went looking for possible blown fuses. None are blown. Tried to start the car and it will starts but when I relesase the key it dies.
Anyone have any idea what was fried?
I'm here at work waiting for AAA. So far it's been 3 hours. They estiamte another 2 hours before they will come. The Jeep will be towed to my mechanic.

Sounds like the ignition switch that's mounted on the steering column burned up. Mine did this about 5 months ago. Its very easy to change...Tj

No. But, it helps to pull the front seat out (gives you more room to work.)

The electrical ignition switch is atop the column, down by the firewall. There is an operating rod that runs from the key lock to the electrical switch, so make sure you don't bend it up and that the key is OFF before you start taking things to bits (that's the setting that the new switch will be in, so you won't have to figure it out.)
