Default 95 Cherokee 4.0 T-Case shot

I have a 95 Cherokee Sport, 4.0. I think it's an NP231 Transfer case. There is a hole in the side of the transfer case. I do not have the time or money to fix it right now. If I remove the front driveshaft, and drive it as a 2wd, is it likely to damage anything (or lock up completely)? I'm thinking that the transfer case is always turning, and I don't want it to freeze up and destroy the transmission or something.... any suggestions?

Drive something else until you can replace it.
