Hello! I'm having some trouble with my xj. About 1 month ago it was running great and everything was good until one day it decided not to start. I got to looking at it and could not figure out what was going on. I had a friend turn it over while I listened to the engine and as it turned over I heard a faint clicking noise coming from the the injectors somewhere. I had him to turn it over while I wiggled the wires and it magically started and I did not have a problem until last week when it died and would not start. This time it is doing the same thing and I hear the same noise yet I cannot get it to run even after wiggling the wires. I took the cover and tape off of the wiring to inspect for a bare wire that may have been touching another or grounding out but found nothing. I cannot figure it out for the life of me!! It acts like it wants to start sometimes if I hold the accelerator to the floor and it will pop a Lil but will never start and only does it sometimes. Can anyone help me with this? It has great fuel pressure and I put a new coil on it last time it did this. Also if I spray starting fluid in the intake it does nothing either. I have not checked for spark yet but will be doing so tomorrow. Any and all input will be greatly appreciated

I suspect you'll find your problem not far from where you were shaking.

Nothing has recently been done. The last thing that I know of is the plugs, wires and an oil change but that's been a while ago.

I removed all of the tape from the injector wiring and went through each wire individually and looked for bare spots or any kind of sign that the wire has been shorting out and I found nothing. I then wrapped each wire individually with electrical tape and then shrink wrapped them all. Even after doing this it still will not start. If I push the accelerator all the way to the floor it acts like it wants to start and tries but will not actually start just pops and tries to run. I am lost. I am getting spark from the coil. Any suggestions?

Well, you need fuel, spark and correct timing for the engine to start.
You said it had "great fuel pressure". Did you check it with a gauge? 20# and 40# look pretty similar if you simply press on the test port, but 20# isn't enough to start the engine.
Spark- did you pull a plug or two and see what you were getting? Lay it on the valve cover and watch while you crank.

No I did not check fuel pressure with a gauge, I checked for fuel at the fuel rail schrader valve and it "shoots" out. I also tried starting fluid and does nothing. I double checked spark at the coil tonight and there is spark, checked at the plugs and there is spark there as well. I hear a faint snapping noise by the injectors as the engine cranks but I cannot see anything nor do I notice a change when I move them around. I am stumped. Every now and then when I crank the engine it acts like it wants to start but never does. You said timing, is there any way I can check this without a timing light or special tool?

This means little without an actual gauge reading.

A hot blue/white scare you kinda spark or like flicking a bic lighter?

Do you smell or are the plugs soaked with raw fuel?
