Concerning the engine problem did you say when the engine stumbles other than when you first start it such as at idle, at idle in gear, stopping at a light or such, taking off after standing at a stop, cruising speed, backing off the throttle after cruising? Also does somebody know if the transfer contains gears or a chain?

try cleaning your idle control valve I cleaned mine with carb cleaner and I had a red shop rag stuffed down in the intake and it was no longer red when I was done it didn't help my major problem but it stopped searching at idle I am thinking about pulling the controller off and cleaning it that way also the first time I just shot about half a can of carb cleaner through the idle port in different directions

Ouch! There is a product out there called TVF injector cleaner that I use instead of Seafoam that I think works better at cleaning your fuel system. IMO In fact the fourth time I used it it cleaned my tank so well that my tank started dripping at the fuel fill tube. Haven't crawled under to fix it cause I don't have a garage but I will.

Oh! I almost forgot could your popping noise be your chain slapping when you put it in reverse? just a thought. I don't know if there is any transfer of motion to the chain when not in four wheel drive like I said just a thought.
