Default 94 xj cutting out

New issue has come up. Was getting ready to go on a camping trip but it’s a 6 hour drive one way. My Jeep had the typical lifter tick so I wanted to fix it before the trip. Put a new cam and set of lifters in and the brake in went fine. After the brake in I did confirm no lifters or cam loves got wiped everything checked out. Went to text drive it and as soon as I got on the road and hit 2k rpm’s it’s started coughing and spit sputtering and fell on its face. Let off the gas it came down to idle jsut fine smooth and even but again as soon as it hit 2k rpm’s fell on its face throwing a fit. Brought it home and now it does it in the driveway bring it up to 2-3k rpm’s and it falls on its face and won’t settle down untill I let off the gas. Now the slower I go through the rpm’s the higher rpm I can reach before it acts up. And ticks like a stuck lifter even though they are brand new. I know there’s a lot of failures in new flat tappet lifters but I pulled the valve cover and confirm all valves are opening and closing and the ouch rods are spinning so no wiped lifters.

I should note I had pulled the more a couple months ago for a reseal new rod and main bearings, piston rings, valves lapped and all new gaskets top to bottom with a high volume oil pump.

Did you use the zinc paste on the lifters and camshaft? How many miles are on it since you did the lifters and camshaft? Mine maybe latest a 100 miles before I had similar symptoms the first time I changed lifters and camshaft, I forgot to use the paste and shortly after the break in it started running like crap and eventually had a hard time idling. When I pulled the valve cover I couldn't tell anything was wrong with the lifters and camshaft. When I decided to do a rebuild I discovered partially worn down lobes and some lifters shorter than others haha.
Hopefully this ain't your issue so you don't have to go through all the work again.
