94 xj 4 low problem
Iv been looking all around this forum and haven't found
A answer to my question. I am new here so sorry if there is a thread
Already for this or if I explain weird
So I got a new jeep (new to me) last week and I was messing around and
Put it in to 4 low and when I tryed to go up a 4 inch rock it piped out.
In my jeep when I go to shift it in to 4 low from neutral I don't have to push it to the right like u have to in my buddy's 95.
Here is my question
Is there a metal piece some where that makes it to where u have to push to the right and back and the. It goes left or is it somthing in the trans that makes it to where u have to do this.
If there is a metal piece that is supposed to go there to keep it from piping forward does someone have a pic of it and if not does anyone know what else it could be?
Thanks

if it pops out of 4L, its because the link is not adjusted properly. when in 4L, it must be fully engage before the lever reach the end of its travel.
That is easily adjustable. There is one bold under the vehicle between the lever and transfer case that when loosened can make the lever more one way or an other.
It has to be adjusted so in 2H it is fully engaged a little before the end of travel as well as 4L should also be fully engaged before the end of its travel.

for me, I used channel lock pliers directly on the transfer case to make sure it was positively engaged in in 2H or 4L then set the adjustment so the lever just a little before the end of its travel.
Trial and error will work too
