Default 94 and 98 Distributor Difference?

Hey guys, been on this forum a bunch cause Google has brought me here for various reasons and I love it - thought it was time to make an account here and join the community.

So I got a 98 XJ, not running yet. Had it going in November after sitting 11 months but not well. Not sure what it was but it just wasn't "right" if you know what I mean. So at this point I had replaced the distributor with a '94 dist. because the previous owner told me the Jeep was a '94. So months later I can't get it running again and I'm wondering if the cause is the wrong dist. or would the 4 yr difference really matter? Originally it had a different harness so I had to cut and solder on a new one. Checked for spark and nothing, I'm about 99% sure the cylinders are getting gas.

Can anyone confirm that the distributor is the problem? Plugs, wires, cap, and rotor have all been replaced as well.

Thanks guys you're awesome
