I have a 176K 94 4.0 4wd auto.

Monday it ran fine, yesterday it ran rough but smoothed out once warmed up, today it runs like dog crap.

I got new wires already but cap, rotor and plugs were coming from another napa. I removed each wire one by one while running, 1,3,4,5 and 6 reacted to the loss of spark, #2 did not. New wires solved nothing. I did remove, clean and reinstall the IAC as well today. Still runs like poo. I will be picking up those parts tomorrow but am I missing anything here? All vac lines are new. Pulled plugs #2 is ice cold, the rest were warm, Show some brown on the insulation and short core tips on #2 and #3 and #5. I ordered autolite platinums and will gap to .035.

Any extra thoughts on this are appreciated trying to wing it since my HDD on the pc bit dirt and held my FSM for the XJ now I have a haynes manual to rely on which isnt much better then charmin.

Resistance of injector #2? Platinum plugs are generally not recommended for the oldies.

Could be a bad plug or maybe the fuel injector is dead not the plug

I pulled the plugs and all buyt #2 were warm but the #2 plug smelled like fuel.

I havnt picked up the order so I will swap foir copper plugs.

I noticed #2's core was down to the insulation when I yanked it yesterday.

Here is the findings
from left to right(#6-#1) as in the engine

Seems I was running on sheer luck, Ive never seen cores this far gone and still running.
Pulled #2 again first this morning after starting it, soaked with fuel so the injector is working correctly, the others didnt have but an engine smell to them(hard to explain yet you all know the smell) but had no cores.

I changed mine when I got it in September. The old tips had a lot of brown crap on them, but the engine ran fine !!
So, does it run OK now ??

Yes, It runs like its new, my ticking is gone as well as I did steth the motor and found #2 to be ticky months ago. These were so gone the gap ring wouldnt grab. I just need to get my duff to napa and get a new filter and some 10/30 as being in a deep freeze for over a week the 15/40 is no bueno for it.
