I'm new to the forum but have definitely done my research. I have spent the last 3 days researching this issue and have begun to make my attack. I started with the ignition swich. Cheapest part on the list. Got back from auto parts store and began to tear apart the jeep. The repair manual says to remove the lower trim panel. The switch is on the "lower" part of the column. Well...its not. I spent 45 minutes with my head inside the dash trying to find the switch. No luck. Well, right as I was about to give up I ran my hand over the top of column and felt something. I tried for a bit but wasn't able to get the harness out. By this time it was dark and I was pissed and tired of sweating all day. I grabbed hold of the actuator rod and turned the key to verify I was in fact linked to it. I turned the key and the rod did not move. Yet there was still the "spring" effect when you turn the engine over. Now remeber this is on the very top side of the column. There is another switch on the left side that controls the high beams. I know the mystery switch and actuator rod are not that. My question is...for those of you with 93 sports...where should the igniton switch be located? Do you have any pictures? I don't know much about jeeps yet...could this switch have been jerry rigged since its not where the book says? I'm lost... help!!!
One thing I forgot to mention... the mystery switch...I could feel the other end of the actuator was not connected to anything. I could grab the rod and shake it and hear it moving loosely inside the shroud on the column just behind the steering wheel. How the hell do you open that shroud up so that I can look? The book doesn't mention it at all. Just says remove lower trim panel, get access to switch. The location of my mystery switch would require me to unbolt the support bracket for the column and drop the column so I could get to it. I really don't want to go through all that...
I friggn hate Haynes manuals... they try to squeeze waaaay too much info into a tiny book. I want pictures and such. I was a huge chilton fan but no one carries them any more.
If I just jumper the fuse will it be ok to get it home? Its only a few minute drive away. I thought about it just so I can get it out of my friends driveway but was worried id catch it on fire before I got back...

don't by pass the fuse. don't put a bigger one in there either. these are bad practices that lead to expensive repairs... ill look up the location of the switch, give me a sec.

these are from the repair manual its located on the right hand side of the steering column. it is th part you slide the key into and has a electrical plug on one end. you do not need to remove the steering wheel to get to it.

1993 and 2000 completely different steering coloums the ignition switch on the 93 is on the upper right side of the coloum looks like this

if the motor is turning over when the key is turned to the start position the switch is hooked up and most likely working correctly
