i am thinking about building a engine for the Mrs. XJ hers has 230k on it i found 3 sitting in a junk yard 2 are 93 and 1 is a 94, my wife's Jeep is a 96 are the ones i found compatible with the 96. and is 450.00 a good price plus 80.00 core

 

I put a 94 motor in a 98. a couple of the sensor mounting locations are different, but it has worked out good.

 

The 4.0 blocks are all the same its the heads 3 differant ones and the acc. that are differant just use all your 1996 acc. and rebuild the head of course and use that,its the same for all years. Say like the renix years head and acc on any block,then the ho years up to late 1999, same thing, then the power tech years late 1999 to 2001 for the xjs.the only other thing is 2000 up have the coil packs and the cranksensor in place of the dis.(
