I have one truck I put Moroso ceramic seal in 6 years ago and it's still truckin along. It's worth a shot, I thought it would not last but it has.

Mine uses a Chrysler ignition key where as the 86 I looked at buying had a GM key

if it is the early column the rod will be directly on top of the column going to the ignition switch. you will have to be a little flexable to see it!!
