So my main question right now is how did it manage to get thrown off in the first place? It was running fine at about 8pm friday and saturday at 7am it just wouldn't start so we decided to check the rotor position at tdc and it was off. We hadn't touched the dist at that point.

if you think yu put it back in wrong lift it just enough and turn the rotor only 180 degrees see what happens

I'll have to try that tomorrow because it is too dark now, but what is confusing me is the old rotor was facing the wrong way when we took it off. How could it have done that over night if nobody touched it? Could it have just had a bad start and thrown itself off?

I took the dist out after I discovered the Jeep wouldn't start, so it is very possible I put the new one in wrong but if it still doesn't start after I check that I don't know what to try next.

If the rotor is 180deg out, it's a safe bet that the air you felt was the piston coming up on the exhaust stoke and not the compression stroke.

Re-index the dizzy but make certain your on the compression stroke.

Really?!?!?! Gosh...I had no idea that the exhaust valve actually opened...GollyGee!

You'll still get air out of the sparkplug hole with the exhaust valve open.

Well, easiest thing to do in this case is rip the valve cover off and check.

it would be so much easier if you could reach thru the computer and bring it up to tdc on compression stroke for him and start his motor so we dont confuse people by all the answers he dont no who to lsten to" shazam gee willikers"
