Default 92 xj rear diff rebuild

I've got a 92 xj with ~250k miles. I'm thinking the rear diff needs to be rebuilt because there is a hesitation between the acceleration and the reaction in the rear, slow speeds and fast. My question is what should I do? I see these rebuild kits that have all the bearings with them but I don't want to do this and then have to tear it back apart again to replace the gears. Should I do it all at once??

Might want to check your u-joints first. If they are worn they you will get a bit of a clunk or movement and much cheaper than bearings and such.

Check your u-joints first... also I would check out the inside of the dif as well as see id there is play in the slip yoke.

the play in the rear is referd to as backlash.... basicly you need to put EM brake on.. put in neutral and then grab the yoke on the front of the rear end and rock back and forth.. and up down side to side..if it moved up and down side to side.. yes it needs rebuilding.. a leaking seal should be noticable.... if it moves around 1/4 inch spining back and forth.. well thats about limet...its acually (Ring Gear Backlash .005-.008).. but if you can grab it and it goes clunk clunk.. its prob bad... but you need to make sure you know whats bad... could be just u joints...
And you will need a dial indicator to set up new rear if you rebuild it..its not hard.. just need a few special tools...and some know how..
