92 XJ overheating blown head gasket?
OK so yeah I'm asking yet another overheating question but i think my case might be a little different.
SOOOO this is whats going on, I have replaced the following parts in my cooling system
-champion 2 row aluminum radiator
-flowkooler high volume water pump
-new T-stat
-3 electric fans with aluminum shroud
-new lower rad hose
-new t-stat housing
-new steel line coming off the water pump going into the heater hose
I filled the block/head up with water thru the t-stat housing on the sensor side not t-stat side then filled the radiator then added cooling system flush solution to help break down rust/scale as i now begin to try and flush my cooling system, i got a funnel/rad cap set up so i can burp the system and let the solution do its thing in the cooling system as soon as the t-stat opens up my funnel fills with nasty dark brown **** then blows steam! it wont burp or take in anymore water till the t-stat closes then it sucks up the whatever water was left in the funnel while it was blowing steam, i add probably about a gallon f water back in the radiator while the t-stat is closed and when it opens up again it does the same damn thing.... so after once again the t-stat closes i top it off with water take the rad cap/funnel off and put on the normal rad cap and go for a quick drive around the block, t-stat opens and the temp just continues to rise even at idle. i get home before it hit the red and sprap down the radiator with the water hose to cool it down, it drops down in temp and i shut her off. the only thing I can think the problem is that it may have a blown head gasket or cracked head. but there is no smoke, no oil in the coolant no water in the oil. i have not yet checked the spark plugs for signs of a blown head gasket. I was wondering if anyone one here has had the same issue and can shed some light on it, thanks guys!

I kinda thought the same thing that somethings clogged, when I pulled the water pump and t-stat I stuck my water hose in the head to see if I would get any water flow and water flowed out the hole where the water pump goes just fine.. I’m going to pull my plugs today and take a look, I’m already planning on pulling the head this Thursday morning

When thermostat open raise idle water will go down fill and install cap let return to idle. Best fan set up was from factory. Are fans pulling or pushing air thru radiator?

I think you’re right about the fan situation, I’m going back to stock, I’ll get back to you Thursday

I would imagine the rad cap is good it’s brand new, came with the 2 row champion radiator. I did a little research on the electric fans I’m running, they only each have a 950cfm rating where the OE mechanical fan has a rating of 4K cfm not including the stock electric fan which is rated at 2k cfm. So I’m pretty sure the fans I have right now are what’s causing my problems

THE ISSUE IS FIXED! The e-fans were the reason why. I will NEVER make that mistake on an XJ or probably any vehicle with a mechanical fan, really happy I didn’t tare into the head thanks guys for reaching out!
