Default 92 cherokee fuel

Have a 92 cherokee I hit a big pot hole one day the engine shut off, it then started for two or three seconds and sputtered then shut off. Now it will turn over but not start? I think fuel pump anyother ideas

Do you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key on? Do you have fuel pressure at the rail?

I would determine what is missing... spark, fuel, or compression

Then you can start to narrow down the cause of the problem. Just because you might not be getting fuel, doesn't necessarily mean its the pump. Could be a fuse, wiring, plug, etc...

But, figure out what is missing so you don't go chasing your tail, looking for a fuel delivery problem, when it might turn out to be something completely different.

So to add on to the what the member above me said. If you hit a large bump and it started acting a fool. If could be a loose connection. Easiest way is to start at the pump check all connections and use a voltmeter to double check proper voltage. Then work your way up to the motor. It could be as simple as a plug coming undone in the tank or the fuel pump dying. Good luck

If the strainer is not on the pump when I pull it out could that be the cause for the pump not to engage

The strainer just helps with low fuel level pick up and sifting through the grime that accumulates over the years
