I swapped 4 way flashers with my buddy's and nothing swapped them back and now we both have the same problems...

Same problem, No break lights and No 4 way flash. Was like this when we bought it.

Schematics in Hayes manual do not seem to match this vehicle, a 91 Laredo!

Found red wire dangling next to the battery. Previous owner must have disconnected it. Hooked it up to + terminal on battery. Break lights and 4 way now working fine.

Wow. Mine was the little red wire going from the battery to the fuse block. It was just hanging there. I never would have had a clue if it wasn't for this thread.

Dont know if you have found out your issue or not but i have an easy fix for the no breaklights or hazards. I had the same issue. I simply ran direct hot to inline fuse to the pink wire with black stripe "91 cherokee" .. im not getting any hot to that wire like i should. Now i have break lights and hazards... welcome.
