Compressor clutch not engaging. If I do direct wire to battery it will engage. Has leaked refrigerant since last time I filled it, about two weeks ago. But when I pull vacuum on it, it holds it. Also, put the ac system under pressure over 100 psi with air compressor . Held it. No leaks. I'm at a loss. New compressor might fix issue? Thought, ideas, suggestions, comments. Thanks

 

Is it currently charged with refrigerant? Did you convert to R-134a?

How long did you wait when you pressurized/vacuumed it?

Did it work OK after you last recharged it?

 

Yes is been converted for a while now. It's worked fine, until recently air felt warm. Felt around for leaks and noticed moisture and dye leak detec t or on backplate of compressor. Gave a little more torque and recharged it. Blowing cold again. Parked for a week or so. Turned on and blowing warm.

Immediate assumption is that it leaked freon. Checked around but did not notice leaks. openened service valves, blew air into it. Left it for like 30 mins. Held it. Pulled vacuum. Held it. With system under compressed air pressure, clutch should have engaged. It's not engaging when turn on ac. Can compressor go bad but still clutch engages if connect directly with wire?
