'91 radiator fit '87 XJ?

'91 radiator fit '87 XJ?

My son has an '87 XJ, 4.0, 5spd. The rad is lookin a bit shaky, so I figure it's better to replace it now.

My parts store has a Spectra rad for '91-'01 in stock for $90. Or he can get me one for '87-'90, it's a Vista, at $130, and won't be in till Friday and require 2 trips to the store. (one to order and pay and another to pickup) It looks like the only differance is the newer one has a radiator cap.

Anyone know if the newer one will fit (with minor mods ok)?

I know I'll have to get a cap and overflow hose and tank, and that it'll convert the closed system to an open system.

The newer one will fit and the best thing to do with it is convert it to open cooking system

fits perfect even able to use cooling fan switch on drivers side tank in new rad, i used the gasket that on the switch and the one supplied on the plug where it goes on new rad it set the switch out a litter easier to tighten it...jm2cw...click here---https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/ren...d-shift-63044/
