Default 91 Puking Oil around Filter Block

What the heck? 220K and it decided to start this nonsense.

Aside from changing the gasket, is there some other issue that I should be investigating or handling while I do this repair?

Thankfully, I am that guy who cleans his engine. I noticed a sudden quart a week habit of 10w30, right after an oil change. Hillbilly rustproofing was suddenly evident, and a quick cleaning this afternoon revealed the source.

Any Ideas what would have caused this?

it can puke oil around the filter if you double gasket. the old on stays behind and when you put the new one on its two gaskets.

Replace the o-ring in the adapter.

The rings in that adapter are known to harden and leak. Often it blows back and looks like the rear man seal is leaking.
People have posted that they used a colored one, red or orange, that leaked.

Just did mine today on my 98. Had to use a pipe for leverage to break it loose. Then a ratcheting wrench works great for the rest if the way

Thanks.

I felt a bolt down there, but didn't know it was a T60.

Will fix this in the AM.

Lock it down gentlemen... asked and answered!

I would blast it clean at the car wash, then watch right away, to see where it's leaking. If you drive a mile it may not be clear at all where the oil came from. It's always good to be positive you are fixing the right thing!

In any case the job will be easier it it's clean. Good luck! (pressure senders can leak....

Are you sure it's coming from that particular spot? Mine was throwing oil like crazy and bc of this forum, I checked the filter itself and found it to be one full turn loose

I may have to look closer at this myself, I have no leaks while parked but there's obvious blow by coming from somewhere not much but enough to get nasty..

Being a 91' the adaptor bolt is most likely a 9/16 allen head. Buy a allen socket that you can remove the allen head out of it. You cannot get the socket in there. So, you stick the allen head in the spot and put a 9/16 wrench on it. Then use a larger wrench to gain leverage on it.

DO NOT buy the dorman kit for the orings. They will leak. Buy the Felpro large oring and then take the internal small orings to napa and match them up, from a kit. Lube them up good with oil, as the bigger orings are a tight fit, but will not leak again.

Should not take but 20 minutes to change them out. It is common fix. I bought a allen head socket kit from harbor frieght. It was cheaper then buying one socket, plus you get an assortment of allen head sockets for future use. It does take some pounding with hammer and punch to get the allen head out of the socket!

Could also be a 5/8" headed bolt in 91.

As suggested, clean it up first.

it was a 5/8" "bolt".

it cost me $2 for the o-ring as I didn't have one in that size, but I did have the other two.

My son and his friend did the dirty work while I drank a beer and told them how worthless they both were, and I would have had it done 15 minutes ago.

Thanks again!
