Hello All,

I have a 91 Cherokee Laredo that is having an issue starting. The Jeep has been sitting for a couple of months while other repairs and modifications are completed. She started like a champ before she was grounded. The issue is when I go to start her, she doesnt even crank over like she would if she had a dead battery....theres nothing. Things like the radio, windows, locks, lightbar, fan, etc all work when I try to start her but other than that there is nothing. The fuel pump primes, the battery, starter and alternator have all been tested and passed. I am thinking that maybe the CPS is the issue but before I go out and start buying parts I wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue.

Could be the NSS (neutral safety switch) if it's an auto trans. Try wiggling the shifter while trying to start it. If nothing try starting it in neutral.

 

x2 on the NSS. A bad crank or distributor sensor won't stop it from spinning. Here's a great video on refurbishing the NSS. Hardest part is getting it off in one piece. Be careful prying as the backside is plastic and the threaded part is aluminum.

This sometimes happens to me. It starts in neutral fine instead of park.

And then one day it won't. No reverse lights? When in 1-2 trans shifts out of 1 at low rpms?
